LOL. It seriously is dried up! The fruit slices I put in my dehydrator, that is! SO I had an awesome friend who gifted me her Dash Dehydrator after finding she was "too impatient." --Her words, not mine. Just my luck because we get a bountiful of fruit and veggies all the time and had been looking into getting one! YAY!
So why a dehydrator? It preserves the food, keeping the nutrients without the water. It's convenient and doesn't take up room in your fridge because it can be stored in a cabinet. You could even bag or jar up, add a bow and tag, and gift to family and friends anytime throughout the year. These Stand up, reusable paper style bags with windows would be great if by chance you're adventurous and want to try your hand at selling or dried foods gift basket making! 😄
Best of all, it could save you money over buying prepackaged dried fruits and meats, and it's healthier!
I'll be honest, I was so excited to use my new dehydrator, I got to slicing right away! I started with a few of the fruits we had, bananas, peaches, strawberries, and pineapple. Check out my first batch! I sliced, layered, turned on to 165 and let dehydrator run for 10 hours total, checking and rotating about every 4 hours.
Verdict on dehydrating your own fruit? I forgot to take a pic of the sliced pineapple.I felt I cut it pretty thick so placed it on the lower trays, but the temp may have been a little high because some of it browned...or I left it too long. It is so naturally sweet though, it still came out great! Isaac even loved the dried peaches! The trays are really easy to move and clean. I think this would be a great small investment for anyone looking to dry their own foods. You can grab your own dehydrator just like the one I used, here.

Next on my list is to slice up some beets, and to try Salt & Vinegar chips using zucchini! Plus, I can't wait to try making fruit leather and dried meat (aka jerky) and will be sure to let you know how it goes!
